TOPEKA (KSNT) – In Tuesday’s severe storms, the Shawnee County tornado sirens sounded longer than expected. Officials say there was a software issue.

Shawnee County sounded its tornado sirens the afternoon of April 30 after a tornado warning was issued for Shawnee County. Shawnee County Emergency Manager Dusty Nichols told 27 News the sirens wouldn’t turn off once the warning had passed.

According to Nichols, a software issue caused the sirens to continuously sound. A crew member was sent to the base unit to turn the siren off and on manually.

A contractor is reportedly going to look into the issue.
