What will the future of software be? – MacRumors

Recently, I’ve been using Adobe Reader on my iPad to have PDFs spoken to me. To use that function, one selects the text to be spoken and then presses “speak”. It’s a great feature, but there could be less steps involved. E.g., when having the text selected, one needs to use the arrows on the displayed menu to get to the “speak” button.

Now, obviously, everyone has different needs. I would rather have the “speak” button displayed right away, but someone else may use “copy” and “translate” more frequently. Even more practical for me would be a button located on the top or sidebar, allowing me to press it and then just swipe over the text to be read.

With AI in mind, I’m wondering if software might evolve in a way that lets users organise said software individually. E.g., maybe it will be possible to move user interface elements around and place them wherever one wants them to be.

I wonder if software will become much more individual and more modular. These ideas might leverage productivity on the micro-scale and therefore perhaps also innovation on a macro-scale. We would just get “more out of it”.

In addition to that, hopefully, AI will help to program higher quality software and reduce its malfunctions.

Possibly, AI might also democratise access to software development by lowering its cost and giving access to a broader public. Maybe, in the future, any individual will be able to create its software, just like anyone can make a phone call these days.
